Lemax Bulbs and Adapters

Early Lemax Lighted Buildings were supplied with a US plug and an incandescent bulb. Lemax no longer offers replacement bulbs for these bulbs.

The power adapter was rated for use with 125V and a 5A fuse.  For your safety, these US power cords & bulbs are replaced with a modern Moonlander bulb for easy use with a Lemax AU adapter, battery box, or expansion cable. This is done prior to shipping to you.

The problem with US adapters in Australia

There are many reasons why it is better to use a Moonlander bulb, but the primary reason for Discontinued Lemax swapping them out is as follows:

  • It is illegal to sell power adapters with removable fuses in Australia
  • The power adapter is rated to maximum 125V.  Australian 240V will burn out the bulb and risk fire.
  • International travel adapters do not work (as they still provide 240V input)
  • A stepdown transformer is required to lower the input voltage (240VAC) to within acceptable range (110 – 115VAC), and these are expensive.

How to make use of the Moonlander bulb

The Lemax Moonlander bulb is a LED bulb that requires 4.5V to operate.  They can run off of a Lemax battery-operated box (with 3 x AA 1.5V batteries), the Lemax power adapter with AU plug, or various Lemax expansion cables.

The Moonlander bulb (along with any other 4.5V Lemax lighted building or facade) can be powered by these adapters.

The expansion cables enable multiple Moonlander bulbs, and other 4.5V connected lighted buildings or facades as long as the combined draw does not exceed 1000mA.  If the total mA draw exceeds the adapter capacity one or more prongs may become inoperable to accommodate the adapters capacity.
